Iran–U.S. Nuclear Talks Advance Under Shadow of Military Threats
Following the first round of indirect talks, Iran and the US have agreed on a set of guiding principles and end the conflicts of over ambition of Iran for nuclear weapons. The talks took place in Geneva.
These talks are taking place at the time when there is high pressure from the USA. As recently President Trump recently pointed out the implications of unsuccessful talks by pointing to past US airstrikes against Iranian nuclear facilities. Although the US has escalated its military presence in the region with aircraft carriers and destroyers, Iran has conducted its own naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz. Despite the possibility of a diplomatic agreement, Iran and the US continue to show defiance, with Iran’s Supreme Leader advising against US threats and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying that it will be very difficult to reach a final agreement.
